Some of those powers are extremely deadly. Don’t make me angry! You won’t like me when I’m angry! This anti magic ray will be used liberally to reduce or eliminate the threat of magic being used against it effectively. The central eye of the Beholder has the power to negate magic. Floor traps such as spiked pits can also be placed in such a way that the Beholder can use them to it’s advantage for protection and to lure enemies to injure or kill themselves. Floating over lava, acid or other dangerous areas can keep anyone from getting up close and wacking it with a weapon. Because they have the natural power to levitate they will use this to their advantage when necessary. The last thing that they want is a fighter to come up close and hack it in the face with a sword or axe. Range is the first thing that a Beholder is going to consider. And these creatures are fully aware of that potential danger. Those with experience and magic can hurt a beholder or even slay it. Most creatures that they encounter will be less intelligent and less powerful. These creatures believe that they are at the top of the food chain and that all other creatures are inferior to it in power and intellect. It will have allies nearby as well as minions to serve it.īeholders eat unintelligent foes and enslave intelligent ones to serve it’s evil needs. And it will have contingencies in the event that someone tries. They are not likely to fail to foresee how adventurers might try to take it down. Surprise is unlikely to be an issue as it is looking everywhere all at once. Well for one thing….with up to eleven eyes it can see trouble coming from any direction. So how does a supremely intelligent creature like this protect itself from harm? Their armor class is not that difficult to hit depending upon which part of the creature you are targeting. They are nearly always the boss of any dungeon where they might be found. Their many eye stalks give them so much power that they can kill instantly. They are so fearsome that every adventurer fears them. It is so unique, in fact, that it is probably included in more Dungeons and Dragons artwork than any other creature. As any player will tell you, the game features pretty much any and every monster you can think of. Usually, these gigantic monsters are the ones you get to after an incredibly long quest, but every now and again, a mini-boss of sorts shows up to terrorize even the most advanced of players.įor those nights sitting around a table throwing dice and playing with your pals, it would be wise to learn which monsters in D&D are the most threatening. In most cases, a Dungeon Master might throw one or two big creatures at a party, but for those DM's who have a party who is more annoying than they are entertaining, it might be high time to peruse the Monster Manual and throw something truly big at them. After all, the name of the game has the word "Dragons" in it so you know there are some serious threats lurking around every corner. If there's one thing Dungeons & Dragons is known for, it's monsters.
